Troubleshooting

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Likely the ILA misheard what you said.
  • If you experience an issue with translation accuracy, please reach out to us at support@translatelive.com. Please include information such as what was said, what was transcribed, and what showed up on the translated side.
  • Check out ways to Customize your ILA [How To Create Phrases] where you can give us more information and context for your use case to help make your ILA translation more accurate.

  • Try turning the microphone sensitivity down. The ILA is likely picking up a lot of background noise and translating that alongside your conversation.
  • Move to a quieter area to avoid background noise interference.
  • Check out our list of approved accessories  [Approved ILA Pro Accessories] where you will find handsets, headsets, and microphones that could also be helpful in cutting down background noise.

Conversations on the ILA are not saved on the devices, nor are they saved anywhere on the cloud, not even for training the AI. This makes the ILA the safest, most secure option out there!

  • You do have to be connected to the internet to be able to use the ILA.
  • We do have cellular options.
    1. Best Practices: Internet Connectivity

  • A person who is deaf or hard of hearing can use the ILA for closed captioning by reading the text. They can do this in any language, including English.
  • If they have hearing aids that are connected to their phone they could also join by scanning the QR code with their own phone and then they will hear it directly in their hearing aids.
  • You can purchase our ASL package that allows you to use the Live Interpreter Room for live interpretation.
  • The tablets are Android and can support Android-compatible braille displays and Android-compatible loop systems

  • Go to settings → Support and click on the “Detect Language” button. You will hold down the microphone while the person is speaking and the ILA will try to detect what language the person is speaking. Then you can select the language for them.

  • ILA stands for Instant Language Assistant

  • We recommend a hardwired connection to sound systems utilizing a 3.5mm TRRS to XLR adapter.
    1. Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DTM8SJA
  • If the situation permits, Bluetooth headsets and Bluetooth speaker/microphone combination devices can also be connected to the tablet to be utilized with the ILA App.
    1. Bluetooth 5.1 is supported.
    2. Bluetooth audio devices are required to be speaker/microphone combination devices, even if the speaker is not used. It’s due to how Android handles Bluetooth as the default audio devices and how it passes single-purpose (Mic-only or Speaker-only) Bluetooth audio to the ILA App.
    3. Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087MXMWHN
  • A USB-C adapter to connect to audio inputs can be utilized, but that should be tested to ensure functionality.  USB-C audio has been tested with a USB-C headset, but a USB-C microphone and it did not work.  Your mileage may vary.
  • Please remember that no matter which option is used, the ILA App should be restarted any time a new peripheral audio device/input is connected.  The ILA App detects the audio devices available when it launches.  You can see the audio devices the ILA is using by starting a translation session and tapping on the caret / up-arrow next to the small microphone unmute to the left of the big red microphone button.

  • With a full charge a tablet that is unused will last for several days.
  • With a full charge a tablet under constant usage will last for 5-8 hours.

  • Yes, only for 1 on 1 room. Scan the QR code, select your language and dialect then tap on Join Room once you see the prompt appear.
  • Note: The ILA cannot make outgoing calls, it can only receive calls via the 1:1 room QR code. Additionally, only 1 call at a time can be accepted.

Tips for Networking

The ILA app needs a reliable internet connection to access our servers and the AI translation models.  Without a reliable connection, the translations can be slow or inaccurate.

If you experience any issues connecting to Wi-Fi, please try forgetting any saved networks, turning off Wi-Fi, restarting the tablet, enabling Wi-Fi, and attempting to connect again.

If you are having issues with the ILA App not connecting to the server despite the tablet being connected to Wi-Fi, please have your IT Department review the article linked below for the IP Addresses, ports, and domains that may need to be whitelisted.

Tips for Charging

  1. Charge the ILA with the cables and adapters that were sent with them.
The Rhino-branded charging adapters are 24W fast chargers, and regular 12W chargers will not work well with the tablets.
  2. Plug them directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip. This guarantees a good power source when charging with fast chargers.
  3. Leave them plugged in overnight.
  4. When powering on from a 0% state, hold the power button for 10 seconds instead of just a brief push of the power button.

Translation Accuracy

ILA delivers highly accurate translations by combining industry-leading AI language models with intelligent customization features. Users can choose between Fluid, Faithful, and Creative translation styles, while Translation Context helps the AI better understand industry- or organization-specific conversations. Key Terms provide an additional boost by improving recognition of names, acronyms, technical terminology, and other specialized vocabulary, resulting in more natural and accurate translations.
